Desert Classic Short Track, Utah August 8-10, 2025

First short track competition of the 2026 Olympic season at the Utah Olympic Oval. Some of the top skaters and rising stars will be present to as they kick off the road to Milano. This event is a key early test, revealing how much athletes have progressed over the summer and where they stand at the start of the season. You might even catch a glimpse of future Olympians who could be competing here in Salt Lake City in 2034!
Qualified skaters include Louie Toth, Alessa Laut, Keanna Royce, Kierana Laut and Emma Yun!

Canadian Junior Short Track 2024-2025

Kierana Laut – Top 20
The Canadian Neo-Junior Short Track Championships features skaters aged 14 to 15 and is used to crown individual distance and overall champions for each age class. The top 60 skaters per gender category compete in groups to gain racing experience and challenge to make the podium.

Canadian Neo-Junior Short Track Championships

The Canadian Neo-Junior Long Track Championships features skaters aged 14 to 15 competing for individual distance and overall titles. The event’s structure encourages both individual racing, as well as Mass Start and Team Pursuit/Sprint events, fostering social interactions and allowing skaters to gain racing experience.

The Canadian Junior Long Track Championships 16 to 18 competing for individual distance and overall titles in their respective gender category. Skaters accumulate points towards the end-of-season Canadian Rankings and the results are used to help select the team that will represent Canada at the World Junior Championships.

The Canadian Short Track West Championships is a national speed skating event for young athletes aged 11 to 13, serving as their introduction to national-level competition and an opportunity for them to represent their province or territory. The event crowns individual champions in various age and gender categories, includes relay and ability-based races, and focuses on the holistic development of the skaters.

​​​Skate-Tec Western Elite Circuit
​
The Skate-Tec Western Elite Circuit is a short track competition circuit focused on developing young speed skaters. It provides challenging opportunities for skaters to develop their tactical awareness and execution of learned skills. The circuit provides a fun racing atmosphere and is an introduction for most skaters to the high-performance competition stream. The Circuit typically consists of three competitions, two hosted at the Olympic Oval, and one hosted at another venue in Western Canada.

The Provincial Skater of the Year will be the highest ranked skater in the province based on the ranking system as determined by the SSBC Athlete Development Committee. There will be four awards: Female Short Track, Female Long Track, Male Short Track and Male Long Track.

BC Long Track Championship 2026

The British Columbia Long Track (BCLT) Championship are held annually in January. Skaters must qualify to participate in BCLT. A LT FUNale competition is typically co-hosted for those who do not qualify for BCLT.

BCLT is the qualifier for Team BC x Canadian Youth Long Track Championships.

BC Cup competitions present province-wide racing opportunities for skaters who have met minimum qualifying times. Speed Skating BC Academy training camps are held before or after BC Cup competitions and may include one-ice sessions, dryland, testing, strength and conditioning, and education.
